In October 2016, Fujifilm came out with the black and white Instax mini film- the Monochrome Instax Mini.
In my impression, many people who owned an Instax Mini cameras in Singapore mainly use it to take photos during special occasions, such as birthday or anniversary. So, I am not sure how this new monochrome will fair among them because personally I would want my Instax to be colourful for celebrated occasions instead of the gloomy monochrome.
Of course, this new monochrome means good news for photography enthusiasts who want to explore different medium for different aesthetic feel of Black and White Photography.
I am all on to try this new monochrome! But the price was the first to put me off. One box of Monochrome Instax Mini, with 10 exposures, costs at least SGD $15.50 in the market (or more if you buy from Fujifilm store -.-). That is like SGD $1.55 per shot, even more expensive than shooting the 35mm film, assuming you develop and scan for SGD $8.50 and used the expensive Kodak Portra 400 (estimate $15.50). One shot is at most 70 cents.
Until one day, I walked past a vending machine selling Instax films located at Star Vista Basement 1, beside the AXS machine near the escalator. I didn’t have high hope because their common colour Instax film is SGD9.50 (I think). This is expensive compared to online stores and carousell in which cheapest I see is SGD7.50 for one.
I was so surprised to see their Monochrome Mini Instax selling at SGD 13.50! Of course I bought one and try hehe… Thing to note, it is best to have exact note and coins, because if you put in two $10 notes, they will give you $6.50 change in coins.
The price is true as of 30th December 2016.
If you know any where selling cheaper, let me know!
